I’m not a photographer, I do love pictures and when I see something I like, I frame it and click, but no, definitely NOT a photographer.
My brother in law is
@monkeyleader - you can follow him on twitter, check out his photos and wonder why he picked me for the Holga project…..
So, what is the Holga project?
The Holga camera is a plastic point and press camera. It eradicates digital photography and all it’s “cheats” making you think about what you are looking at, what you want the picture to look like and on 35mm you have no idea if you got it right or wrong until the films developed. That’s the thing, you could take several truly awful pictures but that’s part of the fun, your ‘practice makes perfect’ attempts, makes you view the world in a whole new way. Suddenly you are more aware of light, framing, content….you are more picky per shot as each one counts. But the intriguing thing is the beauty from a “bad” photo. These photos also have a life of their own, their own beauty, whether it’s badly lit, there’s a thumb in the wrong place, a heads cut off…..it’s art……
The Holga project is where a photographer produces a set of pictures. In the project that I’m taking part in, the camera is being shared amongst several participants. We each have the camera and 3 pictures, we then post it on to the next participant on the list. When the film is complete the one in charge, @monkeyleader will develop and share our project
I’m thrilled to be taking part and will do a follow up once the project is complete.
