Things to look forward to in 2012

2012a

It’s the start of the New Year and 2011 is already a distant memory. With the current mood of the media and society in general, its hard to get excited when all you ever hear about is war, economic crisis, recession and crooked governments. But don’t fear my mighty wafflers, 2012 is not all doom and gloom, there is plenty for us to look forward to and I have trawled the world-wide web for literally minutes to find the best of them for you:

1) Playstation Vita

The successor to the Playstation Portable (PSP), the nemesis of the Nintendo DS and the hottest thing to hit the portable gaming world since the Tamagotchi. The Playstation Vita (PSV) kicks the pants off the Nintendo DS when it comes to processing power and will probably appeal to hardcore gamers more than your small child. But rumoured to be launched at £229 in the UK for the WiFi only version, it’s definitely got the hardcore price tag to match.

2) The Queens Diamond Jubilee

I find that the older I get, the more excited I get about Royal occasions. Not because I’m a royalist or even give a flying monkeys, but it’s a pretty decent excuse for a four-day weekend! But in this case I do care, as Liz has been our number-1-gal now for 60 years. No mean feat in itself and well worthy of a street party or two I’d say.

3) The London Olympics

No-one can ruin the run-up to a major event like the British. Scandals, over-spending and ticket farces have left us feeling a teeny-tiny bit miffed with the whole thing. But when the time comes, we will put on one heck of a show, I have no doubt in that. The whole worlds eyes will be upon us so lets strap ourselves in and enjoy the ride.

4) US Presidential Elections

If you want to witness one of the greatest shows on Earth, you have to get yourself involved in the US Presidential Election. Seeing as they are basically auditioning for the most powerful job on the planet, they put on a show that the top ten script-writers in Hollywood would be proud of. There is drama, razzmatazz by the bucket-load and some amazing debates. Miss it and miss out on finding out the low down on the newest baddest-man-on-the-planet (or woman).

5) Total Solar Eclipse in Australia

Total solar eclipses happen like every bajillion years or so, so the fact that one is happening this year is a massive deal. Don’t let the fact that it is happening on the other side of the planet put you off, because if you get the chance to go Down Under and witness this bad boy then you take it.

6) Movies

Every year there is a list of good films to watch that coming year, but 2012 is truly the year to end all years film wise. The list includes –

  • Prometheus – The Ridley Scott directed Alien prequel
  • Total Recall – Remake of the classic Arnie film starring Colin Farrell
  • The Avengers – Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Scarlett Johanssen…. Oh my!
  • The Dark Knight Rises – The conclusion of Christopher Nolans epic Batman Trilogy
  • The Hobbit – Martin Freeman stars in Peter Jacksons LOTR prequels
  • The Amazing Spider-Man – another Spider Man relaunch, who can’t be excited about that?
  • Skyfall – the latest James Bond film and possibly the greatest ever?

7) The Avengers v X-Men comic event

99% of you out there will not really care about this, but it is definitely one of my things to look forward to in 2012. The Avengers v X-Men will be a twelve issue, bi-weekly comic and Marvel’s big event of 2012. Already being touted as a potential movie in the future, an absolute must-read for any fan of comics, superheroes or indeed life in general.

8 ) The Apocalypse / Doomsday / End-of-the-World

That’s right, the time is almost upon us, the end-of-the-World is nigh!!! Yeah right! I literally can’t wait to hear the massive amount of excuses that the 2012 brigade come out with when the End-of-the-World doesn’t in fact occur in 2012. There will be plenty of ‘mistranslations’ of sacred texts and it was actually 2120 all along I’m sure. And at the end of the day, if they are right, at least we wont be around to hear them bragging….

You mean you aren’t looking forward to the media induced, mass-hysteria that will sweep the nation, only for England to get knocked out on penalties by Germany?
