Hands up how many of you out there have an expensive smartphone, tablet or e-reader? That’s most of you then? Ok, now hands up who has a case to protect your device? Cases for our electronic devices are almost essential with the price we pay to stay on the cusp of technology, but shopping for the right one can be a bit of a nightmare if you want something different from your basic plain ones. So when I got the chance to review the services of www.idealcases.com I jumped at the chance, especially with mother’s day coming up. Two birds with one stone, result!

The website

The website for idealcases.com is very well presented and remarkably easy to use. Once you have chosen the device you require a case for, you then have the choice to browse their own designs and collections, or if you are like me, create your own. The website is quite new but I found the collections on there to be poor for the case I wanted (iPhone 5), but I’m guessing this is due to the huge selections available under the design your own section.

Once you have selected the case material you want, you can start designing your own case. The case designer is really simple to use and makes the whole process really enjoyable and stress-free. Once you have selected your background, any text and/or pictures you are ready to go through the ordering process. At this point you can either continue as a guest or create a free account. The rest of the checking out process is the same as purchasing products from any other website.

Waiting for my case to arrive

As I chose standard delivery I was expecting a relatively long wait for my case to arrive, as is the norm with Royal Mail deliveries these days. The website said 2-3 days and I fully expected it to be at least that. They also offer a next day delivery service for orders placed before 2pm the day before, but as I’m tighter than George Osbourne at a budget meeting I decided I’d wait.

To my surprise my case arrived less than 48 hours after placing the order, surely a first for Royal Mail but a pleasant surprise none the less. The packaging was basic but all that was necessary for a phone case.

The case

The case itself is good quality, sturdily made and strong plastic, exactly what I ordered. The picture that I chose for the case was a little grainy, but to be fair it is a close up of my daughter’s face which I had to enlarge a little to fit. Other than that the quality of the print on the plastic is really good. The case was easy enough to get on my iPhone but an absolute nightmare to get off. To say that your phone will be securely fastened in the case is an understatement. I tried the case on my phone and had to use a 10p coin down the back to assist me getting it off. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as it ensures your phone is safe, but its something to be mindful of when purchasing.

Overall happiness

I couldn’t be more delighted with the case I purchased. The website was easy to use, the delivery time was super quick and the case is just what I wanted for my wife for Mother’s Day. All in all I would recommend idealcases.com to anyone who wants a customised case for their electronic device.
