When she speed-walks into Liam Jaxon’s bar, things get more complicated. He’s gorgeous, southern, and has no past with Emi. He may be exactly what she needs to prove for the last time that she doesn’t need or want Jack!

Aimee Brown – author bio:

Aimee Brown is a writer and an avid reader. Little Gray Dress is her first published novel. My second novel is in the works now. She’s currently studying for her Bachelor’s degree in English Writing. She spends much of her time writing, doing homework, raising three teenagers, binge watching shows on Netflix and obsessively cleaning and redecorating her house. She’s fluent in sarcasm and has been known to utter profanities like she’s competing for a medal.

Aimee grew up in Oregon but is now a transplant living in cold Montana with her husband of twenty years, three teenage children, and far too many pets.

She would love to hear your thoughts on Little Gray Dress! If you’d like to chat with her she’s very active on social media. You can find her at any of the networks below. Stop by and say hello!

Tell us a little about yourself and your background?

Hi! I am Aimee Brown, author of Little Gray Dress. I’m also a wife, mother, daughter, and sister. I grew up in Oregon, but have lived all over the USA the last ten years. Oregon, Nevada, Oklahoma and now Montana. I’ve been married nearly 20 years (in October!) to my high school sweetheart and we have three kids ages 19, 18 & 13. They seriously grow up too fast.
I’m addicted to coffee, love reading, and writing, have a slight obsession with redecorating (and rearranging) my house, can’t relax unless my house is perfectly spotless and I have a lot of visible tattoos.
Little Gray Dress is my debut romantic comedy novel.

Which writers inspire you?

So many! All the greats of chick lit – Sophie Kinsella, Emily Giffin, Meg Cabot, Janet Evanovich, Candace Bushnell, and so many more. There are also all those indie authors that I just adore.

Tell us about your latest book. What’s it about?

Little Gray Dress is all about weddings, engagements, break-ups, mean girls and LOL moments.

Here is the ‘official’ blurb – Emi Harrison has avoided her ex-fiance, Jack Cabot, for nearly two years. Her twin brother Evan’s wedding is about to end that streak.

From bad bridesmaid’s dresses, a hyperactive sister-in-law, a mean girl with even meaner secrets, and too much to drink, nothing seems to go right for Emi, except when she’s wearing her little gray dress.

When she speed-walks into Liam Jaxon’s bar, things get more complicated. He’s gorgeous, southern, and has no past with Emi. He may be exactly what she needs to prove for the last time that she doesn’t need or want Jack!

Her favorite little gray dress has made an appearance at nearly every major event in Emi’s adult life. Will it make another grand appearance when she least expects it?

When did you decide to become a writer?

About 10 years ago I decided that my purpose in life was to be an author. It’s taken me a long time to find the characters that would stick around through an entire book. I think it’s made me even more thankful that I waited because they are perfect and it’s such a fun story as my debut novel.

Do you try to set a number of words per day?

Yes! Actually, I was participating in NaNoWriMo this past November and decided that 5000 words a day minimum was my magic number. I seem to be able to knock that out in just a few hours and when the characters started talking they just wouldn’t shut up! Lol

What struggles have you overcome as a writer?

Writer’s block! For sure. I hate to admit this but I have a really hard time with stepping outside of reality and what I know and opening up my imagination. I’ve been like that my entire life and in order to get to that place I really have to work at it. It makes being an author a tad more difficult than I’d like.

Which famous person, living or dead would you like to meet and why?

I’d have to go with some of the old Holywood actresses such as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and Hedy Lamar. They are absolutely mysterious in so many ways. I’ve always had a soft spot for Marilyn Monroe, not because she was beautiful but because she was SO flawed. She struggled with so many things from a more than rough childhood to her depression, mental health and ultimately her death. And yet she couldn’t get the help she really needed. It really makes her story truly tragic.

What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

Allow yourself to write badly. That’s been another thing I struggle with. I have some kind of OCD/Perfectionism trait that really hinders me in finishing things that I don’t consider perfect the first time around. Once I was finally able to let that go, I was able to knock out an entire book pretty quickly. Was that first draft perfect? NO WAY. But, it was so much easier to perfect something that I was familiar with from start to end.

Where do you see publishing going in the future?

This is a really hard question. I’ve worked in the publishing industry for a couple of years now as a book-blogger, author assistant, and book marketing manager. It seems publishing changes every day and that you can never learn anything before it changes again. It seems authors who are successful are about 50% talent and 75% luck (lol I do know that doesn’t equal 100… even though, math is not my strong point).

I will always be a fan of print books over eBooks and I know so many people who also feel that way. How easy is it though, to just drop your Kindle into your purse and have dozens of books with you anywhere?

I see a couple of trends rising. One is thanks to the Millennials/book obsessed folks out there who love their social media and posting a picture of your Kindle just isn’t as pretty as posting a shelf full of beautiful book spines. I see more people buying print books just for this reason.

The other is that Bookstores are on the downturn thanks to Amazon (the very same place that has the monopoly on book sales?!). It worries me a little when monopolies take over the way they are. Will it mean that print books will one day be extinct? I hope not. But, being an author and a reader in a small town that doesn’t have a big bookstore, is rough.

What are you working on at the moment – any upcoming projects?

Of course! I’m working on a couple things right now. I’ll give you two tiny hints.

Project number 1 – is a stand alone novel that has a main character that is also in Little Gray Dress, BUT… he’s not THE main character. I think you’ll love Riley, the leading lady, as she has me laughing at every scene.

Project number 2 – is a cozy mystery/chick lit novel that takes place in a vintage Tiki Bar and has a mystery perfect for the Nancy Drew within. (not to mention an amazing love story).

LOVED talking to Aimee about her book!

The Wedding of Lily & Josh

“So why did you choose a combined bachelor/bachelorette party? How will Josh have strippers if we’re there?” I ask Lily, who still has the curling iron in her hair even though we were supposed to meet the guys at the bar twenty minutes ago.

“Because it’s fun, there will be no strippers, and we’re all friends. So why not?”

“Got it. I just hope this burrito I ate earlier doesn’t make another appearance soon.”

“What, you’re sick?”

“Not sick, yet, just… iffy.” I wasn’t going to tell her this at all and just hope it passed. Literally.

“Well, hold it together.”

When she’s finally ready we walk the few blocks from our hotel down to the bar where this magical event is to take place. I probably shouldn’t have worn heels this high for this much walking, but I hate looking an entire foot shorter than Jack.

“Wow! This place is busy!” People are spilling out of the front doors, laughing, drinking and just overall partying. “Come on.”

We push our way through the crowd and look around the busy bar for the rest of our party. Someone waving from the private balcony above grabs my attention, and I look up and see Evan.

“They’re up there.”

“Perfect! We wanted to get the balcony but weren’t sure we could at such short notice.” We squeeze through a crowd full of scantily-clad half-naked bodies towards the stairs, and the man guarding the VIP rope nods towards us without a word while letting us through.

“It’s so hot in here,” I yell to Lily over the music, following her to the top.

“It’s Mexico, Ems. It’s always hot.”

It’s so hot that I think my hair is sweating, but I continue up the stairs and hope there is air conditioning in the VIP room.

“Finally! What took you so long?” Jack greets me with a smile.

“Lily… She just had to look perfect.” I glance across the room at her and Josh already making out in a corner by themselves. “I’m not sure why we are having a party to watch them have sex in public. It’s kinda gross.”

“They’re not gonna have sex. That would be disgusting.” Evan takes a swig of his beer. “We leave disgusting to me, remember?” He winks at the only other bridesmaid that made the trek from Oregon to Mexico.

“No, Lily will be pissed if you screw her cousin.”
“Lily will never know.” He and Jack both laugh and glance at me. “Right?”

“I know you have like zero morals about this stuff, just don’t do it here, please?” I beg Evan to try and keep it in his pants, but I know he’ll never listen. He never does.

“I got you a drink.” Jack points at the Cosmo on the table in front of him.

I take a giant slurp, hoping it doesn’t go to war and piss off the burrito from earlier. “Please promise me that if we ever were to get married that we won’t have bachelor/bachelorette parties.”

“Promised. Really aren’t they just an excuse to do something dirty right before the wedding?”

I glance back and Josh and Lily, still making out. “I thought so, but apparently, in this case, it’s just to make the rest of us feel dirty.”

“They’re just in love.” Jack smirks over at them. “Dirty love.” His scrunched-up disgusted face matches my own, even through our laughter at his joke.
