On Friday the 21st September the whole world can celebrate International Day of Peace. The thought that our globe will take time out to turn its back on war and violence makes me go WOW
The thought that around the globe we have the privilege to join together, knowing everyone wants the same thing….World Peace. That thought makes me well up.
This globe is a mess. We have fought in the name of religion, where religion speaks of love and yet I see hate. I watch the news in horror, from day to day to worldwide atrocities, so much so that it seems to wash over us, horrors being usurped by naked royals and Z-list celebrities becoming “news”.
We are still at war
Our planet is riddled with humans fighting to obtain or protect pockets of land…. People are dying…. For centuries this is how our planet has been. Have we learned nothing. Nothing at all……
We all say we want peace and yet greed, politics, religion, has its own agenda. I want peace….. This is a very global way for individuals to stand up and be counted. International Peace day September the 21st
You can show the love by going on peaceoneday.org/ the countdown is ticking away allowing you to plan how you will celebrate international peace day. You can attend a local event or create an event of your own or a time of reminiscence. From Friday 21st special activities and celebrations will take place all across the world over the 2012 peace weekend, including festivals, concerts and my personal favourite a global peace wave with moments of silence at 12 noon on the 21st, in every time zone. Wow. Just wow.
“peace day” allows an opportunity for individuals, communities and nations to create practical acts of peace on a shared day.
The 21st September was officially declared International day of peace in 2002 by the United Nations who have devoted themselves to worldwide peace and encouraged all mankind to work towards this goal.
Ten years on I’m happy to take part in such a momentous occasion. I take part as I hope that somehow, somewhere, sometime, we will stop. Really stop the wars; that one day ‘that’ day of peace will cause a ripple effect that will continue into the next day and the next and the next. That we will indeed say no to war and create peace on this planet of ours…..
Millions of people will be taking part in recognising and celebrating the International day of peace. At noon on the 21st, whether in simple meditation, the lighting of a candle, the gathering together as a group……the global peace wave will spread across the earth. 😀
How will you spend it?
