I have been a loyal user of Sugar Sync for some time and whilst I don’t have a lot to save in the ‘cloud’ I had found Sugar Sync and Dropbox were good tools for blogging files. Sugar Sync is dropping their free option for a paid option on February 8th so I have just spent the last hour or so going through everything I had saved and moved it out.
Oh and for those of who don’t know anything about the cloud, this will help. Moving y files wasn’t difficult and actually I found that I had quite a lot saved that I didn’t need to have saved. Although Sugar Sync have offered existing customers a reduction in the price for a limited time, for me it’s an an expense I can’t really justify. I have enough really with Dropbox but Sugar Sync was better for it’s folder syncing but I’m not going back.
If you are an existing Sugar Sync user be sure to check your emails as they have extended the reduced price. If you are looking at other cloud options, here are the few that I have read good things about and also set up (either before today or set-up today);
Dropbox
I already had Dropbox and I do like it a lot. I think this is the one most of the people I talk with have. They have paid plans but I have the free account which has free referrals. Each referral gets both people 500MB (up to 16GB) which is awesome.
Google Drive
I also already had a Google Drive account but I had used it sparingly, not because of any reason other than Sugar Sync was what worked for me. I quickly downloaded all of my files from my Sugar Sync into my Google Drive tonight. The naming of folders took a bit of time but as I was clearing stuff out it helped to have a tidy too. Google Drive gives you 15MB free which is impressive to start out at.
Though my time with Google Drive has not been much so far, when I used them more in the past I was mainly using the iOS apps which I never had a problem with.
They also have paid plans too.
SkyDrive
I have signed up to this one as a backup for my backups. That makes sense to me even if it doesn’t to you. You get 7GB free with SkyDrive.
