It seems that Pope Benedict XVI is a bit of a technology junkie these days. First there was the Pope’s YouTube page, where you can see his Holiness delivering all kinds of holy wordery; then there was the Holy See’s Facebook application, which allowed you to receive messages from his Wonderfulness direct to your Facebook page. The Vatican’s flirtation with gadgetry continued with the Popes own iPhone app, which again gave you access to the prayers, the latest news from The Vatican and from Benny himself.
However the latest step into the 21st Century from the Catholic church has seen The Vatican say ‘No way, Jose’. TheCatholic Church of America has released an officially sanctioned iPhone all which allows believers to ‘confess their sins’ to god directly by using their app, without the need to go to church. Even God, it seems, is an Apple disciple.
Everything seemed rosey, as news came out that the Vatican had endorsed the move. It seems though that those reports were false as The Vatican released a statement confirming that the iPhone app is no substitute for confessing in the house of God. What a surprise! To think people believed that the Church would allow people to skip attending church. What would be next? The John the Baptist iPhone app where you can get a virtual baptism? The Judas app, an action packed slash-em where Juda has to escape the wrath of the disciples? I’m sure Pope Benedict would love them.
