Following the surprising turnaround in attitude towards the use of technology in football. The inept FIFA President, Sepp Blatter, did the right thing and ordered tests to be carried out at a Zurich-based research centre, using around 10 different goal-line technology systems.
However the disappointing news was that all 10 systems tested failed to meet the minimum criteria of being 100% accurate and able to report the results to the referee within one second.
All is not lost however, it may come as a surprise that the British firm Hawk-Eye, was not part of the testing. As Hawk-Eye, that has become synonymous with cricket, snooker and tennis, needs a stadium type environment to house the camera technology and operate effectively, it was not able to play any part on this bout of testing, however FIFA have given assurances that they are still under consideration.
