What if I told you there were no more butterflies?
Sad as it seems that is very likely to be the case unless much is done to help preserve these fantastic and beautiful little things. The most popular species the Small Tortoiseshell and the Peacock fell by 68% and 30% respectively through the 2000’s. Already five species are extinct and half of the remaining 56 species are also greatly under threat.
You can help by putting some butterfly friendly plants into your garden, a simple little pot of lavender is enough but if you have room here are some others;
These will all be in full bloom in July and that will be ready for the Big Butterfly Count.
Moths and even bees could soon be extinct too. I’m getting my garden ready as I really don’t want future generations to only read about butterflies in a book!
If you are growing vegetables in your garden but also want to attract butterflies you will need to invest in some nets as butterflies will lay their eggs on your greens and then you’ll find you have lots of caterpillars munching their way through!
