Weekly Waffle: 10-4-2011

This week’s Waffle Questions were put together by JasDunham. A few technical problems at DW towers should hopefully be sorted this coming week.

Growing up, all of us had an idol who we just had to be like. Who was the person for you and why did you want to be like them?

Jason: Grew up idolizing Michael Jordan. Played basketball since I was like 9 or 10 and always wanted to be just like him cause he was the best.

Billymawa: Growing up, I loved Doris Day! She’s so beautiful, could sing and dance, had pretty dresses and won the heart of the dashing Rock Hudson in a number of her movies! Even now, I still love Doris and that beautiful vintage style!

Soapgirl: My mom :-). Even when I met my husband to be, he found out pretty quickly one of the most important things to me was to become a mom. My mom was an only child and wished she’d had bros and sis’ so when it came to having her own she had 4. I’m the baby :-). My mom means comfort, safety, friendship, guidance, knowing when to compromise, knowing when to defend, wisdom, morals, self-esteem, passion, love, so much love. She has inspired me to be the wife and mother I am. She and my dad still hold hands, whisper into each others ears, that bond that no-one could break. That’s been my example of a partnership. After 20 years marriage myself, so far so good. As a mom she worked around us kids, always there…..I’ve done the same, been fortunate to be able to do so :-). So I suppose my mom was/is my idol 🙂

JayMotty: My idol used to be Rocky Balboa, the way he overcame adversity and made it. I also loved the way he avenged Apollo Creed’s death by defeating Ivan Drago in Russia was immense.

If you won the lottery, what are the very first three things you’d do with the money and why?

Rachel: Pay off my student loans, buy a new car and a new house.

JayMotty: I’d buy a holiday to a hot beach somewhere so I could decide how much to give to my friends and family without any pressure. plus a whole new wardrobe so I looked good while doing it, then I’d buy a creative writing course at University so I can write better answers to these questions.

Max: 1st make sure it’s in the bank, 2nd pause b4 ditching job, fly to Florida (or Italy) with Steve, my Mum and Brother to take time out and decide what to do next.

Portishair: I would buy Cork City FC and create Sporting Club Cork. A top class training facility for sports people and a retreat for artists, writers and musicians. Once the academy was set up I’d invest the rest getting us to the group phases of the Champions League. Any revenue made from European football would be shared equally among other league of Ireland clubs. (I haven’t spent too much time thinking about this honestly!)

Music is a big part of most of our lives. If we turned on your iPod/iPhone, what are the top three artists that we’d find who you listen to the most?

Portishair: At the moment it would probably be; Mick Flannery, The National and Nick Cave.

Max: Mozart, Prokofiev, Elbow.

Billymawa: My taste in music is ridiculously eclectic! If you turned on my iPod, you’d find my top 3 artists are Moloko/Roisin Murphy, Limp Bizkit and *ahem* Michael Ball!!

Rachel: Guillemots, Kasabian and Sterophonics.

Sometimes jobs suck. We aren’t always doing the things that we love the most, which is a shame. If you could do anything in the world as an occupation, what would it be and why?

JasDunham: I’d love to be a movie critic or even travel around the world writing about food/music/events. But, my dream job would be to work for Manchester United.

Soapgirl: I love nursing, but if I changed course 3 alternatives spring to mind; 1) Landscape gardening or working with a horticultural conservation team. 2) Woodcarving…..learning/creating carvings eg large lizards, totem poles etc 3) Writing that novel that’s floating about in my head……. Actually I could extend my list, lol. So much to do, so little time……

Max: Musician, because music is my biggest motivator.

There are two certainties in life: Death and taxes. If you were going to die tomorrow, what is the one thing you’d do today that you haven’t been able to do in your life?

Rachel: Skydive, it’s something I wouldn’t do otherwise but if I was going to die tomorrow then it would be at the top of my list!

Soapgirl: I’d head to a Third world country to help in a project, something outdoors that’s exhausting but highly satisfying at the end of the day, maybe forest clearing as I love a bit of lumber jacking 🙂 or creating a garden/play area for the school/orphanage. I’d die happy thinking about the joy on the recipients faces.

Billymawa: This is a tough one. My initial reaction is to say ‘resign in spectacular fashion!’ or ‘kiss that hot guy at work’, but they’re too easy. Maybe I’d just spend the day with the apple of my eye, my 3 year old nephew, Matthew. I don’t see him half as much as I’d like and I love the bones of that little boy!

JayMotty: If I was to die tomorrow I’d go to New York for the night as I’ve heard how amazing it is and I’ve never been, it may not sound all that extravagant for my last night alive but it would be one thing off my bucket list.
