As the holiday season hits full force this week in the US, starting off with Thanksgiving on Thursday, I now have to face the dilemma that’s been eating at me for months: to get the iPhone or stick with Android this Christmas?
It’s troublesome. I have loved the Android OS software, just as I have loved to hate the iOS software. Because it was convenient to, because it is made sticking with my family’s cell phone plan easier in the days when the iPhone was strictly limited to AT&T, and so forth.
But mostly because since I first joined the smartphone world, I really did love Android. To this day, I advocate the swipe feature with texting on Androids more than I advocate most things in my personal life. And I just generally like to advocate the underdogs in life, with the exception of the New York Yankees, because well, I’m a true New Yorker. Obviously.
It’s still troublesome, though. Because the iPhone 5 is shiny, light, has Siri, and will always have that cool factor that everyone envies. And Android really only has the Galaxy 3 going for it right now. Plus, Android has a multitude of lawsuits coming its way, which I doubt will be good for business. Down the road, once these lawsuits are settled, what can Android do to make sure their “ripping off of iPhone feaures” don’t happen again, or how does the company come up with something different from what it’s already made that will still hold its current and future users’ interests as well as not copy Apple/other competitors?
It’s going to be a tough road for Android, but given that I can’t help but love their system, I have no choice but to stay loyal to them. I will go down with this ship, if need be, so there it is.
