The 4 social media sites that bring us traffic

I’d never describe myself as wise.

When the site started we had this natural idea to put ourselves across all the social media networks going. That’s what everyone does right? Some have social media gurus to help with their projects but we’ve kept everything in-house. We spread ourselves way too far with our networks so now we have a much smaller social media focus. I’ll explain.

Twitter

Everyone loves a tweet don’t they? Twitter is a great way of making new connections. There always feels a need that you need to be around 24/7 but that’s not the case with us. Unless your social network is more customer based and you’re needed for replies/help asap. Finding Triberr through twitter was a great help, we’re now active in over twenty tribes and it’s a great way to get your content shared by others and also give your own twitter account some variety. We have our own Triberr tribe that we use to share articles (current reach is 339k) and we plan to develop this more this year.

We have used Buffer a lot to schedule tweets in advance and we then don’t need to be on twitter all the time. Using twitter lists can be very helpful and I have just re-sorted ours again. Now my morning twitter check is a quick 20 minutes in the morning to check the timeline, check and RT any useful tweets from the lists and reply to any @’s. I will probably pop on a couple of times later on through the day.

Pinterest

I check in every day but when I do I’m on there for ages, unable to stop pinning all the beautiful things until real life stops me, falling asleep at 2am or my dinner is going cold. It brings us a lot of traffic and we’ve made a lot of useful connections there too. In the past few months we got more active in a lot of sharing boards and we’ve made our own now too – just follow us and request to join.

Tumblr

Ah lovely tumblr. Slightly been left to look after herself as I made a automatic link of our posts to our Tumblr page. Every so often I will go on a mad reblog session. We see a medium amount of traffic from Tumblr and our follower rate is quite consistent despite doing minimal to it. But I want to look at doing more with it in 2020.

Facebook

We have always found facebook works for us in bursts. Then last year we decided to post an extra time each day and we saw it gave us more of a permanent burst of traffic. It is still something that we want to work on this year.

We have other sites and we still need to work out what we’re going to do with them, one of them being our instagram page. We do mainly use this for our book reviews but we are going to plan out some other stuff. A work in progress list.

We absolutely loved using stumbleupon and that was a great traffic loss when that stopped, we have dabbled with the replacement ‘mix’ and we will write up about that soon. We have also been looking into other ways of getting traffic that we are still experimenting with and will update you all soon.

What are your favourite social networks?

How do you manage your time on them?
