Last year, DC Comics shock up the comic industry by relaunching all of there major titles in a move called ‘The New 52’. This gave readers the chance to jump onboard titles without fear of missing a backstory or half-way through a story arc. The move was a success and revitalised the branding of their titles. Not to be outdone, Marvel have announced their own shake-up of a number of their own titles, starting in October 2012. The move is called ‘Marvel NOW!’ and will see the relaunch of a number of titles from #1 issues, as well as a brand new title, ‘Uncanny Avengers’, which starts off the series.
The Marvel NOW! relaunch follows on from the imminent ending of the AvX storyline which ends in September. Not only are the titles ending, but the new titles will see brand new creative teams take the reigns. Where will this lead established characters? Who knows? But Marvel will be certainly hoping the intrigue of a brand-wide series launch will boost the sales of their books, just like it did to their DC counterparts.
