Music Monday: Mark Ronson

Somebody to Love me is the third single from Mark Ronson’s album “Record Collection”- and my favourite song from what I think is one of the best albums I own. The song features Boy George and Andrew Wyatt on vocals. I’ve long been a Culture Club fan as I love 80’s music full stop, but there is something utterly magical about Boy George’s vocals on this track- his voice is full of raw emotion, he sounds like a singer in a jazz club who’s had a life full of drink, drugs and heartbreak. I think it is his best ever vocal performance.

The video does not feature Wyatt, Ronson or Boy George and is shot in a “home movie” style date stamped “14.06.1982”. Diane Kruger stars at Boy George and does an incredible job, I think, it did take me quite a while to work out if the person playing Boy George was male or female.

I can’t really explain why this song hits such a note with me, it just does. I think it’s one of the saddest songs ever written.
