New Music: The Doldrums

The Doldrums are a two piece blues, garage rock, rhythm and blues psyche outfit based in London. Sophie and Kev, who form The Doldrums, create an extremely impressive wall of sound from a small band. Their music is heavy and catchy, full of firm drum beats and strong, catchy riffs. I really love their sound, it’s dirty southern style rock, a bit The Kills, a bit Black Keys. Their music will stick in your mind like a jingle, except that it won’t irritate you, it will only make you plug your earphones back in and listen again.

As I know Sophie and Kev, I know how rich and eclectic their taste in music is, and this shows. You can always rely upon people who love music to make great music, and as Sophie and Kev have roots to punk, ska, new wave, 60’s classic rock and 70’s folk, it’s no wonder their music is so relevant, because all of these influences are prevalent in the music they make. I think Kev’s voice is wonderful, it’s rich and throaty and raw- deep like Ian Curtis and melodic like Jim Morrison. I know Sophie has a gift for putting pen to paper as well, so it’s no wonder their lyrics are insightful and punchy.

Links to their music can be found below. I really hope you enjoy their music as much as I do. In fact, I needn’t worry at all. You will.

Down at heels, music obsessed girl who works in admin. Frequently found talking nonsense on audio blogs, writing nonsense on written blogs or when the internet is down, talking to herself. Life lurches from one disaster to another, but at least it's amusing. I like cats and rats. My fear is they will one day form an allegiance and take over the world. You saw it here first.
