Champions League football is back tonight (and tomorrow night) as the first lef of the quarter finals take place. There are still four Premier League sides in the competition and means at least one of them will be in the semi finals as Tottenham and Manchester City play each other in one of the ties. This fixture will also be the first Champions League fixture at Tottenham’s new stadium.
Tottenham v Manchester City 8pm kick off tonight
This is the first ever European meeting between the two clubs and although Tottenham have the home advantage in the first leg, I feel City will come out on top. Although City’s FA Cup semi final win against Brighton on Saturday was below par for performance but winning when you’re not putting in the performances is how you win titles. City have won 11 of the last 16 played between the two clubs. Tottenham have much to be confident over with a great new stadium to play in and I can see them taking a goal but still see City scoring more. Prediction: Tottenham 1 Manchester City 2
Liverpool vs Porto 8pm kick off tonight
Porto were beaten by Liverpool last year and it looks likely that they will be beaten again this time around too. At Southampton on Friday night, Mohamed Salah ended his 8 game drought and elsewhere goals have not been an issue. Liverpool beat Porto last year 5-0 in Portugal and then saw out the fixture at Anfield with a goalless draw. Andy Robertson is suspended for the first leg, which is a loss. Porto have failed to win any of their last 12 away knockout ties and I feel that this is one-sided to the home team. Prediction: Liverpool 2 Porto 0.
