With us being able to travel a bit more around the UK, a lot of people are looking at more staycation trips this summer and another popular choice is the caravan holiday! You may have chosen to buy a caravan, the past year has made us all think about how we can just pack up and go! There are also holiday parks that have their own caravans so you don’t need to do the extra spend just yet, you may see this as a purchase further down the line.
Here are our 8 useful tips for your next Caravan Holiday
Choosing your destination
It might be somehwere that you have visited before and longed to go back or somewhere that you’ve never been to before. If you are after a beach for your caravan holiday, try to get your spot close so that you’re not having to waste time getting a parking spot each time. Plan to have your spot nearest where you want to visit most, For me, it would always be the by the sea.
Pack light
Caravans don’t have a lot of space in them, you’ll be able to assess this more with your own caravan but if you are hiring one you may not realise how little space you have. Pack light and during the summer months you’ll need less anyway. I recommend some blankets you can leave in the car for when the evenings get cooler and you want to watch the sunset.
Wash your laundry
With packing light, it might mean you don’t have enough clothes for the entire trip so you may need to do a bit of washing whilst you’re away. Holiday parks will have some facilities for that and it is easy to find a launderette that is open. You can buy travel wash and do some washing in the sink or bath, in the summer months this is so much easier as you can put them out to dry in the sunshine.
Take a torch
A lot of places are well lit but late at night coming back to your caravan will look a lot different than in the daytime. Carrying a torch is such a good idea to help you find your home and it’s also a great way to keep the little ones entertained too.
Meal planning
Dependent on your caravan, the cooking options might be very limited. Of course you can eat out at various restaurants and cafes but this can be pricey. I personally like to grab a few bits from the shops so that not all meals are takeaways. I like to have cereals in the morning and it’s handy to just pack lunches if you’re going out for the day. That leaves the evening to be either restaurants or takeaways but you might be lucky and have BBQ equipment and that’s always a winner for a summer evening!
Insurance
If you have your own caravan or motorhome, it is so important to get some insurance. They are not covered under your car insurance and this is a common mistake that people think is the case. Activities
Once you’e picked out the area or holiday park, see what activities are local. There might be some walking groups that you can go to or trampoline parks for the kids. It’s always a good idea to have planned some ideas just in case the british weather has one of it’s very wet days. Having a caravan holiday in the colder and wetter months, does not sound ideal but depending on you location it still doesn’t mean your holiday is washout.
Outdoor space
Depending on where you are staying, try and get a good bit of outdoor space. Obviously in the warmer months this is an idea space for feeling like you have more space and for drying the washing too! A great investment for your caravan would be an awning, then you could provide shelter and also some privacy. I think it really does help create more space because caravan living is a real test for a long period of time. Use what space you have to create a little bit of home outdoors.
