Created in 2003 this is one of my favourite pixar movies. Directed by Andrew Stanton and produced by John Lasseter
It is notable that this American computer-animated movie  won the academy award for best animated feature.
The movie is a father son relationship. It’s about over-protection and when to let go. It’s about what happens when this relationship suddenly gets thrown into disarray due to circumstances beyond their control.
Set under the sea, the father Marlin, an overly protective clownfish has sole responsibility for his son Nemo. They have a fabulous relationship, but the ever curious Nemo longs for a little freedom and adventure. The film develops when Nemo goes beyond the area of safety and gets abducted. His adventure makes him several friends and gains him several new skills. His father, panic stricken in the search for his son, brings an adventure all of its own.
During the fathers pursuit he gains the ‘help’ of Dory (voice Ellen Degeneres) a naive but goodhearted and optimistic royal blue tang who unfortunately but hilariously suffers from short memory loss. The son ends up in a fish tank and has to work out his escape with the aid of his new found friends. Both father and sons adventure are highly entertaining, the friends they make are legendary, making the whole movie both hilarious and endearing. You’re rooting for both Marlin and Nemo to succeed in their missions. The backdrop of the ocean and Sydney harbour brings a lovely realism that all Pixar movies possess. The storyline is for all the family yet subtle adult jokes adds to the humour. The finale is worth waiting for, causing jubilation on and off screen.
My favourite character is Dory. She’s so sweet yet ditsy.
Her song “just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim” is so catchy it gets stuck in your head as it did Marlins 🙂
I also love the gulls “mine,mine,mine”. Every time I see gulls it just comes out automatically 🙂

Dory: “I suffer from short-term memory loss. It runs in my family…at least I think it does…hmm. Where *are* they?”
So another highly entertaining movie from the pixar range. Watch soon, you’ll not be disappointed.
