You always feel relieved when you have complained and got that burning issue off your chest. It doesn’t make you a bad person if you complain about any personal issues and you have a solution to a problem that can be erased. It is modern life. A problem arises, you look at the problem, you massage the problem and then slaughter it. Everything around you is more colourful and we can move onwards and upwards. This doesn’t appear to happen with a number of people surrounding us, as once a problem is resolved, people will only be satisfied if they raise or pinpoint another.
In the past complaints were infrequent and people could address the problem and move on, however if you have any responsibility regardless of whether it is in your profession, for the local sports team or as part of a family, you have the feeling that you are treading on thin ice. Is it because you are incompetent or unwilling to make the best decision, or is it because we are defensive and always looking for ways to improve things when they are already acceptable? There isn’t a right or wrong answer, but I feel that we take many things in life for granted and believe it is necessary to criticise them when we should be satisfied and happy about the standard of life we can give ourselves.
Everybody has problems in their personal and work lives and we all have a different degree of social aspects that challenge us differently. This could be an individual who has social differentiation due to his ethnic background and he is being bullied by those who surround him and he is finding it difficult to support his family as his wife has lost their job and they’re unable to put food in their children’s mouths. It could be an individual who has got a mobile phone and they are unable to contact their significant other due to them throwing it in anger and it breaking while they were intoxicated on a night out. It could be an individual who has spent a majority of their wages on gambling and they now have no money to have a social life and are unable to pay their bills. It could be an individual who doesn’t like the taste of the coffee a work colleague has just made and they now wish to plot a vendetta against them because of the bitter aroma in their mug of coffee.
In the current climate of the complaints culture everyone of those individuals will rant and rave, scream and shout and continue to so for several days to everyone they come into contact with, except not every one of those individuals can justify the complaint they are making can they? The individual who I first mentioned finds it more difficult to handle the issues in his life, they are out of his control and he will be fighting to survive. It is unmanageable and they need help. The other individuals will fight to argue and complain, however they are problems they create for themselves and problems they are unwilling to resolve and want to make a bigger issue out of.
Is it acceptable to complain about the length of the queue in an understaffed Tesco store? Is it acceptable to complain about the poor standard of medical care a loved one has received? If you put both of those questions into perspective you will understand that the complaints movement has got out of control.
You may enquire to why I am complaining myself about others complaining and I will say this and keep it brief;
The unrest in Egypt, the storms in the US and Canada, the category five cyclone in Australia, the fighting in Pakistan, the standard of life in third world countries. There has been a hike in petrol prices and a pay freeze in many public sector job roles amongst other issues, but do we really have much to complain about? You can complain, you can raise an issue. Just don’t make other people’s lives a misery by doing so and look for a solution. There is one.

well said…. 😀
