The White Stripes have announced that they have split up and there will be no more recordings or live performances. The duo; Jack and Meg White announced the news on their official website on Wednesday. They formed the group 13 years ago and released six studio albums with the last one being Icky Thump back in 2007.
They were best known for tracks including Hotel Yorba, Fell In Love With A Girl and Seven Nation Army the band won numerous awards including five Grammys and one Brit award.
Jack and Meg were previously married and then divorced before they became famous. Jack had mentioned in interviews that they were siblings in a way to get people talking about the music and not their relationship. Soon the truth was of course uncovered but by then their music was all that people were talking about. Jack became a musician in the early 90’s but for Meg she first learnt to play the drums in 1997 and their first album, the self titled The White Stripes was released in 1999.
With the announcement of the split they said;
“The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Your involvement will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful”
The inconic group with their statement red, white and black made some fantastic music and some stunning music videos. The most famous for their song ‘Seven Nation Army‘.
