Since Prince William and Kate Middleton announced they would be married, it seems like you can’t turn a corner without hearing about it. Its all over the news, saturating your television sets, taking over the radio and on every other website. So its not a wonder that a large proportion of people couldn’t care less that our future King is marrying his Queen, is it? Well despite people’s feelings about the Royal family, the over-taking of all media or the fact that its everywhere you turn; here are some reasons why people should get on board:
- Its a huge boost to the economy at a time we need it most: Similar to the circumstances surrounding the Royal Wedding in 1981, the wedding will provide massive boosts for both small and large businesses, tourism and raise the profile of the country as an estimated 2bn people watch worldwide.
- It provides a feel good factor for the country: Lets face it, as a country we have had little to nothing to smile about for a long time. The inevitable cuts brought in by the Con-Dem coalition have hit everyone hard. Prices for everything are up and wages are the same. So the wedding provides the people of the UK the chance to put everything aside for one day and celebrate one of the main identities of being British worldwide, the Royal Family.
- It raises the profile of the UK to the rest of the World: Currently, the UK is mostly looked at with mild disgust by the majority of the world due to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Royal Wedding casts the country in a good light, the community spirit it creates being the main factor. Also, the world needs some good news in a year that has seen major disasters and revolutions take up the majority of the news.
- You get an extra day off: Who can argue with an extra day off work? Even if you are the staunchest anti-Royal and simply refuse to participate, at least you can do something you love, for free!
So regardless of your feelings about the situation, at least you now have a few reasons to get on-board. And lets be honest, do we really need a better excuse to have a good knee’s up?
