I’m usually not a fan of free versions of priced games. They usually do enough to tease you into buying the full price game (which is obviously what they are meant to do) but this is not the reason I download a free app. Stick Cricket however, gives you enough in the free version to allow you to ignore the full priced version, and keep the free one.
Three of the four game types are available to the free user. Two player, All Star slog and World Domination are there to fulfill your cricketing needs. All Star slog gives you the opportunity to bat for five overs and try to achieve the highest score you can. World Domination pits you as the All Stars taking on each national side in a 20 over game, fighting from lowly Canada up to the Australians. And Two Player mode, surprising as it may seem, allows you to play against a friend over a WiFi network. SHOCK!
The interface of the game is simple. You have a button on either side of your batsman to choose which way you want to hit the ball. The rest is down to timing the speed of the ball and when to start your swing. Easy yes? Well, not quite. In my first game with the All Stars against the Canadians, I lost by 101 runs which in a Twenty20 match is blooming huge. It is however, hugely addictive and well worth a download, even if its just to fill some time on a train journey or such and such.
I’m going to give this a very credible 4/5, possibly moving up to a 4.5/5 depending on the longevity of the game.
