Klout.
What’s yours? Or rather, how influential on the web are you?
I must admit, I still consider myself new to this phenomenon. Though for only being introduced in the beginning of September, I’m utterly hooked. Tracking my Klout score is now an essential, daily task. Analyzing even the smallest of differences in my online activity from day to day is mostly aggravating, but once in a while, quite liberating. Usually only when I actually come up with something witty to say– a rarity that is attempted far too often.

Klout combines the activity you do on all of your social media platforms, and makes a judgement on how influential you are. Take a look at my profile: http://www.klout.com/#/kengel
As you can see, my score is 44 (something I want to double some day!) . It also tells me that I’m influentional about the iPhone, cars, and the Bronx. Now what exactly does this mean?
By tracking my history of tweets, Facebook statuses, tumblr and blog posts, as well as anything else that I’m forgetting, Klout recognizes that my peers respond the most to me when I mention these topics in any form.
The iPhone.
That was a given. By now, my obsession with writing about and retweeting anything on the behavior of people around the world over Apple products is beyond evident. It’s the inspiration for the majority of my blog posts, especially here on Daily Waffle.
Next, cars.
I didn’t quite get that at first. But when I look back, I notice that I tend to get excited over car rides with my friends. For instance, I can remember interacting with some of my friends on Twitter on the night of my college Senior Ball last May while we were all sitting next to each other in our limo. We were having a great time, making jokes in @replies about living the good life and driving around New York City. All while in our best fancy attire and drinking champagne.
The key here was that my tweets about being in a car or sorts was getting a response out of the people I connect with on a regular basis. Same goes for the countless other car trips I’ve found myself on.
And lastly, the Bronx.
This was another given, based on my life long romance with the New York Yankees and my decision to attend Fordham University– located right next to the Bronx Zoo and the Botanical Gardens 🙂
Even though my interest in these areas are made no secret, it’s still pretty amazing that Klout is able to pin point them. If you haven’t already, try it out for yourself here. You may be amazed at what you’re influential about.
The best part is that it doesn’t stop there. Klout analyzes your entire network, and tells you who you inspire and who inspires you. It gives you your peers’ Klout scores, and breaks down how it scores you based on the true reach of your network across your various social media platforms.
