TED is a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with two annual conferences — the TED Conference in Long Beach and Palm Springs each spring, and the TEDGlobal conference in Edinburgh UK each summer — TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Project and TED Conversations, the inspiring TED Fellows and TEDx programs, and the annual TED Prize.
This is the description the TED.com website gives about itself on it’s about us page; devoted to ideas worth spreading, and that’s exactly what it does. TED.com is an absolute goldmine of knowledge which is brought to you by the world’s greatest minds. The site is a haven for keynote speeches, conference addresses and guest lectures from everyone from Steve Jobs to Jamie Oliver. If you are interested in learning about the future, from the mouths of the people most likely to take us there, then TED.com is a must visit for you.
If you spend an hour on the site, listening to talks and lectures, you can;t help but feel inspired by the passion these individuals show in their respected fields. Wether its Ken Robinson talking about how schools kill creativity in kids, Pranev Mistry and his amazing SixthSense, Arthur Benjamin and his ‘Mathmagic’ or Jamie Oliver talking about children’s food. You can automatically pick up on the drive and passion shown by the talker, even if you think they are talking a load of old rubbish.
