I don’t really hold much truck with this band and I am not entirely sure why they were hailed as some sort of Gods of Music. Just a lot of noisy indie music as far as I could tell. I also have no love for Pete Docherty at all, seeing as he is (possibly was) a heroin addict and generally a scummy little wally I always wanted to hurl into the nearest distinfectant bath.
Having just completely trashed the band, I must give credit where credit it due and say what a beautiful song this is. Written about the relationship between Carl Barat and Pete Docherty and how far it had broken down, it is a lovely little tale of bromance. Rather being sickly sweet and silly as it sounds like it should be, it is in actuality very moving and sad to listen to.
The video is mostly live footage of the band performing at a gig in late 2003, at the Kentish Town Forum. It is also directed by ex-Jesus and Mary Chain bassist Douglas Hart.
This song peaked at number 2 in the UK singles chart, and received many votes from NME readers as a top indie anthem.
