The Sweeney, for those of you either too young or too American to know, was a UK TV cop show in the 1970’s about a Detective in the Metropolitan Police’s ‘Flying Squad’. As the worldwide film industry seems to have forgotten how to make an original film these days, a feature-length remake of the hit TV show was always on the cards. Who better to lead the cast of a classic British remake than ‘The Daddy’ himself, Ray Winstone. Directed by Nick Love of ‘The Football Factory’ and ‘The Business’ fame, The Sweeney also stars Ben Drew, better known to the youth of today as Plan B, the signer, rapper, song-writer.
The Sweeney, lead by Jack Regan (Winstone), are known for their results and their less than politically correct methods of obtaining results. But when they come up against someone who pushes them to the limits, it’s up to Regan and his young partner George Carter (Drew) to pull out all the stops and recapture the streets of London. Expect high action, lots of swearing and cockney rhyming slang as per usual for a Nick Love film, but also expect a fantastic soundtrack and some simple entertainment.
