Hello again internet, it’s been a while! I’m back here for the wonderful season of Autumn, or Fall for some of you, and I have to say I’m in love. Something about the beauty of Autumn gets me like no other season does. So without further ado, here are, in no order, my five favourite things about this wonderful season!
In Autumn, trees become beacons of bright colours lining the streets. Showing bright leaves of deep reds, bright oranges and golden yellows, they stand like torches with spitting flames. Something about them brings a small smile to my face, and I tend to lose myself in they blend of colours. Leaves fall like those red ashes from bonfires and skim across the ground, skittering along like flickering flames along the pavements. And as you walk home from school or work, no matter what age you are, you just can’t help but alter your path slightly to step on the leaves and hear that satisfying crunch.
2. The food
So you haven’t quite gotten to the season of turkey and massive festive dinners, but you have got to a vegetable lover’s paradise. I can hardly wait until my mum starts making her all-famous vegetable soup, or when my granny starts to bake us all maple pecan pie. I love harvest season, the start of hot stews, soups and canisters of hot chocolate. Halloween comes, and there’s pumpkin pie, candy apples and so many sweets. It’s a time of sweet and rich foods, and I adore it.
3. Changing clothes
The best part about Autumn is that it is not always freezing. I can wear thick jumpers and double layers, but there are sometimes I can still wear loose shirts and thin jackets and remember faintly of summer. Clothes match the colours of the trees and everything begins to feel a bit more comfortable before Winter really settles in
4. The start of school
Okay, so this may sound incredibly nerdy, but something about the beginning of a new school year excites me. The smell of brand new paper, new books, teachers and friends, holing myself up in my room with a coffee and my books. For some reason one of my favourite childhood fantasies was to be strolling through a university campus, scarf wrapped tightly around my neck, through a park full of fallen leaves and trees that looked as if bursting into flames. One day, I want that to happen and be my favourite Autumn memory.
5. Night time
Although I adore summer nights, Autumn nights still beat them to first place. Whether it’s nights in watching movies, nights out lighting a fire in our back garden and watching the embers glow, or just lying outside with flasks of steaming cocoa watching the stars, something about Autumn nights captivate me, especially in September. September nights are beautiful, with fiery sunsets that die down to pink glows, then clear star-filled nights which are cold and clear and make your breath come out in little wisps of pale smoke.
What’s your favourite season? And do you think Autumn is as beautiful as I do or have I maybe gone a bit season crazy? Make sure to comment back and we can obsess over the seasons together.
