Tuesday’s Tech Take: I’m Sick of Technology

technology

I’ve been having this dreadful feeling lately: that I can’t stand the Internet, my smartphone or using my laptop anymore. That I’m sick of them (to a certain extent, of course) and need to do something about it.

Maybe I’ve ust overdosed myself on these things for the better part of my teenage, college, and my first two working years as a college graduate. Well, if I’m being honest, that’s not a maybe. That’s a fact. Something my family likes to tell me all the time, too. But if anything, I just know that maybe it’s a good thing I’m feeling this way– that it’s a sign I’m not losing my sense of reality and I should be proud of that or something. I don’t know, though, I’m mostly just rambling.

It’s just that between having to work from my laptop around the clock in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, having to use the same laptop in the temporary space we held for 3 and half months because our permanent office building was shut down because of the hurricane, and in between my already addictive Internet habits which I engage in all day on my smartphone and on my laptop when I’m not working, I think I’ve just reached my capacity. It’s as simple as that.

Lately, on weekends and such, I don’t turn my laptop on at all. The same goes for most weekdays when I commute back home from work, which, 1 or 2 years ago, would literally be unheard of from me. I also don’t tweet as frequently as I used to or read my timelines as religiously as I’ve been known to, either. It’s kind of a crazy feeling, to be honest. I don’t quite know what to make of it.

Yet I still wonder. Am I really sick of the Internet or am I just possibly getting older/wiser/boring/etc?
