5 handy hacks to make your summer BBQs run smoother

Summer is upon us once again, and we Brits need little excuse to get out the BBQ. Whether your BBQ is a small family affair or if you’re entertaining a big group of your friends, we got all the tips you need.

First things first

When you’re finally brushing the dust off the BBQ you’ve rescued from the back of the shed, there’s nothing more disappointing than finding it dirty from last year. One quick way to clean it is to use a scrunched up piece of tin foil to scrape away any major build up, then rub an onion over the grills. The onion will clean any remaining dirt, as well as add extra flavour to the meat. For best results rub the onion over the grills once it is heated up, using a skewer if it’s too hot.

Enhance the flavour

Rubbing an onion over the grills is not our only tip to enhance the flavours, there are a few more sure fire ways to lock in flavour at your BBQ. Add ice to the centre of your burgers to stop the meat from drying out and to keep them extra juicy. Remove the meat from the fridge 15 minutes before cooking as this allows it to reach room temperature and ensures it will cook through evenly. Make sure to resist pushing the burger down when it’s cooking as this squeezes out the juice, making it lose flavour.

Cater for everyone

As much as you might wish they were, BBQs aren’t just about the meat. Prepare salads, vegetables and meat substitutes, to cater for all your vegetarian friends as well as making sure all the meat lovers get their 5 a day. Wrap your vegetables in foil to stops them burning and once again lock in vital flavour.

Make use of what’s available to you

No matter how much we long for endless hot summer days and warm summer nights, British weather is just not that reliable. You don’t need to invest in lamps to keep your guests warm if you’re on a budget, but can bring out blankets you already own and have your BBQ whatever the weather. Save jam jars to use as glasses if you don’t have enough, brining an authentic and homely vibe to your BBQ. Finally, you could use a muffin tin for condiments instead of crowding the table with endless pots.

Keep your guests happy

No matter the weather, you need to keep your guests happy. Keep them entertained by setting up games and music speakers, to bring a chilled summer vibe and make sure to choose the right bottle cooler to keep all your drinks cool for your guests throughout the day and night. The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy your BBQ.
