How the Royal Family Entertains Us More Than Than Ever Before

In the past, the British Royal family were largely seen as being interesting but somehow distant from our daily lives. Apart from the Queen’s Christmas speech and momentous events like royal weddings or funerals, they tended to live their lives away out of view.

However, there has been a shift in recent times, with the Royals now becoming more visible and accessible in a number of ways. This has led to the public feeing an even greater sense of curiosity about them and getting more entertainment from them.

More Intense Media Coverage

It is fair to say that the royal family has always been a subject of great interest to journalists as well as to their readers. However, the arrival of younger, more media-savvy royals such as Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle has helped to spark more intense coverage than ever before.

If we add in the growing number of news sites, blogs and YouTube channels covering their lives, it is clear that there is a huge appetite for stories about the Windsor family. This means that every day there are new stories about all sorts of subjects, from the £24 million makeover of Hillsborough Castle to the Queen’s 93rd birthday plans and more.

Instead of people becoming bored with this constant coverage, it seems to have caused us to become even more curious. As such, the demand for more and more British Royal Family stories continues to grow at record levels.

High Profile Births and Marriages

The marriages of Princes William and Harry helped to bring huge new levels of interest in the Royals. According to CNBC, close to two billion people around the planet watched Harry’s wedding to Meghan in 2018. In UK terms, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011 was even more popular, with 26 million British viewers compared to the 18 million that watched Harry and Meghan take their vows.

Their respective unions have helped to crank up the excitement levels another notch. At the time of writing, there is feverish speculation over Harry and Meghan’s baby. The latest Royal baby betting odds from Paddy Power reveal that Diana is the most popular choice of first name at odds of 3/1, compared to Grace at 7/1. Having said, the odds of the baby being a boy rather than a girl are 5/4.

Follow the Royals on Social Media

The decision of the Windsors to move onto social media came as a shock to many people. The Royal Instagram accounts with the most followers at the time of writing include @TheRoyalFamily with over 5 million followers. @KensingtonRoyal, which is the official account of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, has over 7.5 million followers.

The public’s reaction to this move on to social media wasn’t completely favourable, though. Indeed, they even had to introduce social media rules after some members of the family received abusive comments. These rules include blocking users and reporting them to the police, as deemed necessary.

It seems apparent that the Royal Family is moving with the times and trying hard to stay in control of their public image. Thankfully, the way that they are doing so also helps to satisfy our increasing demand for more details of their lives.
