After last night’s Champions League match between Liverpool and Barcelona, we know one of the finalists. Liverpool overcame a 3-0 lead by Barcelona in the first leg to win 4-0 last night and taking the tie to 4-3 final score.
Tonight sees Ajax taking a 1-0 away lead into their semi final with Tottenham. The away team welcome back Son Heung-min after his first leg suspension. Jan Vertonghen had left the pitch after being injured in the first leg, he apparently was not concussed and should be available to play but will do so with a protective mask. Davinson Sanchez was injured at the weekend and will be unavailable. But Erik Lamela and Serge Aurier are both back in contention. There is still no Harry Kane available either.
Ajax beat Willem II 4-0 in the final of the Dutch Cup on Sunday. They come into this game with little injuries again, David Neres is also available to play after a foot injury.
The Dutch league leaders will reach the final if they avoid defeat against Tottenham, but coach Ten Hag says his side will not sit back and play defensively.
“We need to win this match, that will be our mindset,” said Ten Hag. “We have to stick to our own strengths.”
“We’re confident we can do it, we’re fit and eager.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino said “The negative result in the first leg obviously makes it more difficult, but the tie is still open. We know we need to win and perform to our best. It’s an exciting moment for us.
“Nobody thought we would have the possibility in the last week of the season to reach the final of the Champions League. Now we need to enjoy this moment and believe.”
Whoever wins will meet Liverpool in the final.
