Croatia is a vibrant and historic country with plenty to impress the discerning traveller. Its rocky coastlines, picturesque views and ancient ruins make it perfect for those who enjoy sightseeing as well as sunbathing. Croatia has a warm climate but if you’re not tied to the summer holidays then July/September is probably the best time to visit as you’ll find it’s not as busy but still nice and hot. If you can’t decide which part of Croatia to visit, here’s a guide to some of the most popular locations.
Dubrovnik
This is the place where the rich and famous like to hang out. It’s exciting, cosmopolitan and full of trendy bars and restaurants to explore. Take a dip in the crystal clear water and eye up all the expensive yachts moored in the harbour! You never know, you might spot a celebrity.
Split
Split is a great city to visit for both culture and nightlife. The city centres around Diocletian’s Palace, an ancient palace which was built by the Roman emperor Diocletian around the turn of the 4th century AD. Inside you’ll find winding cobbled streets with a plentiful supply of shops and restaurants. The best way to explore is by simply having a wander, getting lost and seeing what you can find!
Hvar
This island is the place to be if you want non-stop partying and nightlife. You’ll be spoilt for choice with all the bars and clubs scattered around the island. You can also get boats out to other smaller nearby islands where you’ll find more beach parties. It’s not the place to go if you want a quiet and peaceful holiday but fun nonetheless!
Pula
While it’s not the liveliest area in terms of bars and nightlife, there is still lots to enjoy in Pula. One of the most striking parts of the city is the Roman amphitheatre which is the only remaining amphitheatre which still has four side towers. It’s often used for theatre and concerts but you can go in and have a look around for about 40 Kuna.
Zagreb
If you decide to venture inland then you should definitely check out Zagreb, which is the capital of Croatia. Here you’ll find plenty of museums and art galleries to check out, as well as cafes and restaurants for when you’re all worn out from sightseeing.
Croatia is a great country to visit no matter what you want to get out of your holiday. Whether you want culture and relaxation or nightlife and partying, it’s definitely worth a visit!
