Foster The People, a three-piece band from Los Angeles, California, have at long last released their first full-length LP, Torches. And it is fantastic. They have been floating around the indie blogosphere for quite some time now following the success of their first single “Pumped Up Kicks” which rose to number four in the United States alternative chart.
Their self-titled EP Foster The People EP gained them many fans who began to impatiently await something a bit more sonically sumptuous. I remained skeptical, trying to limit my expectations because I have been hurt before by other bands’ misleading EPs, but I remained optimistic. I tweeted that I thought that their new album could potentially be a “life-changing experience,” and in the two weeks that I have had it on my iPod, I have listened to little else.
When one finds himself unable to skip a single song, one knows he’s found something special. Torches is equal parts reflective, discursive and fun.Torches sounds like how it feels to be walking on a boardwalk in summer underneath a perfectly blue sky hand in hand with someone one loves.
It is very difficult to pick out standout tracks, but my favorites are “Helena Beat” “Pumped Up Kicks” “Call It What You Want” “I Would Do Anything For You” and “Houdini.” Torches is simply put a must download album. I would recommend you download it before you’re the last of your friends to have heard it!
