The collection focuses on two distinct sub-campaigns for the season, with nods to: the nostalgia of holidays – British seaside charm with a retro twist; and meaningful social gatherings – coming together and the feeling of friendship, unity and emotional connections.

Talking about setting the scene for the ultimate alfresco gathering this Spring, Mia Slawson – garden buyer at Laura James – shared her expert insights, including tips and tricks to elevate your outdoor gathering from ‘nice’ to next-level chic.
She said: “With indoor-outdoor living being a key staple of alfresco entertaining, the goal here should be to make the garden feel like a natural extension of the home. Fully furnished outdoor ‘rooms’ with seating areas and dining tables are the most extreme version of this, but smaller spaces can be equally as impactful.

“When it comes to setting up the dining area, making sure you have ample space to seat and serve your guests is key. If you want a more formal event, dressing and setting a dedicated garden dining table offers a specific space for all guests to dine together. If you’re looking to create a more chilled vibe, then sofa sets and occasional seating do the trick in a relaxed way.

“When building your tablescape, think in layers and textures – bare wood is great for a rustic feel, but adding textured tablecloths or runners adds further dimension. Brighter hues and mixing and matching tableware, seating, and accessories can add mood-boosting visual interest, or opt for cosy neutrals to keep things modern and minimal for a curated feel.

“Any centrepieces should be considered – small clusters of candles, bud vases, herb pots, or even edible elements like fruit can help spark conversation, but these should be low and inviting, so as not to get in the way of people’s eyelines. Napkin styling can also provide an instant upgrade – whether tied in simple loose knots, draped over the edges of the plates, or neatly threaded through a napkin ring. Keep spacing relaxed, not rigid – that relaxed elegance is what makes alfresco dining feel magical rather than staged. Adding small details like handwritten place cards or dish labels can add an extra personal touch too!

“Accessories can also do a lot of heavy lifting… For example, cosy cushion covers and throw blankets, work well for outdoor sofas and seating areas. Plus, as the sun sets, soft lighting can transform your garden into a tranquil outdoor retreat. Lanterns, warm string lights, and solar-powered lamps add a subtle glow – placed along pathways or around seating areas, they create a welcoming atmosphere perfect for relaxing or entertaining.
