In Shakespeare’s day, there was something rotten in the state of Denmark. In the days of the coalition government, there’s some thing rotten with the state of football, and its name is John Terry.
It used to be something like ‘coughs and sneezes spread diseases’, now I think it is safe to say, we can add John Terry to the list, although it doesn’t roll off the tongue quite so easily, I’ll grant you. As if sleeping with anyone he pleases isn’t bad enough, he’s now racially abusing colleagues on the pitch…AND getting away with it. What an absolute joke.
John Terry is due to stand trial for racially abusing Queen’s Park Rangers defender, Anton Ferdinand on July 9th, a mere 9 days after Euro 2012. Why is this date relevant? It’s relevant because he is STILL being allowed to play in the competition, that’s why. What are the FA playing at? He is being rewarded for making a mockery of a much loved sport. As a ‘pacifier’, the FA has stripped him of his captaincy for the championship, oh how lovely of them. I think it is disgusting that a man, who is alleged to have racially abused a fellow player, is being allowed to represent his country while awaiting these charges. He should have been suspended altogether. Innocent until proven guilty, yes but it isn’t calling him guilty to stop him playing, it is protecting the reputation of a sport which is already on shaky ground.
Rio Ferdinand, Anton’s older brother, is believed to have said that he will not shake Terry’s hand, should they line up alongside each other at Euro ’12, which is ironic given that his hand is probably the cleanest part of John Terry!
