With the 50th anniversary of James Bond this year and the new film Skyfall due out at the end of the month. Everyone has gone Bond crazy and I can include myself in that. I’ve watched three Bond films back to back on Sky’s new 007 movie channel despite owning the boxset!
Now here are my five favourite James Bond themes;
Goldfinger – Shirley Bassey
Goldfinger (1964)
“It’s the kiss of death from Mr Goldfinger”
Am I the only one who used to sing along exactly like Shirley? 😉
Live and Let Die – Sir Paul McCartney and Wings
Live and Let Die (1973)
“What does it matter to ya
When you got a job to do
You gotta do it well
You gotta give the other fellow hell”
Overplayed maybe but still a great Bond theme and also from one of the films that still makes me get a bit spooked out. Yes. Yes it does.
You Know My Name – Chris Cornell
Casino Royale (2006)
“Arm yourself because no one else here will save you
The odds will betray you and I will replace you
You can’t deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you, are you willin’ to die?
The coldest blood runs through my veins
You know my name”
The first of the Daniel Craig Bond films also bought along one of my favourite male singers. Cornell is best known as the lead singer from Soundgarden and this song was edgy, current and provided the background to a more modern Bond.
The film also gave us this;
Diamonds Are Forever – Shirley Bassey
Diamonds Are Forever (1971)
“I don’t need love,
For what good will love do me?
Diamonds never lie to me,
For when love’s gone,
They’ll luster on”
Another Shirley Bassey theme but less should be said about her theme for Moonraker…
Another Way To Die – Jack White and Alicia Keys
Quantum of Solace (2008)
I wasn’t overly keen on this Bond film but having Jack White and Alicia Keys doing the theme? Ultimate win for me. I love the edginess and pure punch that this song gives.
With Adele being the latest new Bond girl as her theme for the new Skyfall film has been released. It’s not the best theme but it’s certainly not the worst either but it still wouldn’t make my top five;
What do you think?
What are your favourite Bond themes?
