The second weekend of the 6 Nations is now over and after my insights into the opening weekend here, let’s see what happened this weekend;
Results
England 59 Italy 13
Scotland 6 – Wales 24
Ireland 22- France 25
A four try romp by Chris Ashton and what seems to be his trademark swan dive (see the above picture) were on show again as England made light work of the Italians. England’s next match is against France on the 26th of February is now set to be the big game of the two main forces in this tournament.
Italy were suffering from late injury replacements to their team and then losing Pablo Canavosio to injury during the game did not help matters. Hopefully the break between now and their next match against Wales on the 26th February will mean some of those can return from injury.
Scotland who had played so well against France on the opening weekend found themselves beaten by a Wales team desperate for a win. Scotland’s next match against Ireland on the 27th of February at Murrayfield should also be a great encounter to see these two forms battle it out as they have both been struggling with form so far.
Wales were much improved on their opening weekend match against England. Their next match against Italy at the Stadio Flaminio should also prove to be interesting as to whether they can continue on this form.
Ireland were also much improved on the opening weekend result and at times dominated the match but costly errors got France back into the match. It was very close towards the end and Sean Cronin is probably still re-living the moment he nearly scored when he dropped the ball with the try line so very close at the death. Ireland’s next clash at Murrayfield should be very interesting.
France were hardly running away with their match against Ireland, costly errors meant that they capitalised on the points. A under-par side will venture to Twickenham in under two weeks where they will meet England.
Now the table looks like this and I just need to work out how I’m going to get over my rugby withdrawals this weekend. Oh I know… the Cricket World Cup starts. Awesome. 🙂
