The following headline appeared in the Mirror today: “Miliband’s running scar-Ed from strikes”
I agree with @Kevin_Maguire (follow him on twitter) and I would go further that the Ed Miliband (@Ed_Miliband on twitter) misnomer of “Red Ed” is actually good for him and for Labour, in these times of austerity. I would also go further in asserting that it’s only the bully Tory and liberal leaning papers that have given impression it’s a bad thing and Ed should stick to his principles and in my view show full support of the strikers’ cause (which in a way he has said he does, but gets lost in press reporting) AND their action. Just supporting cause without follow through might be seen as weak, even though I understand where Ed is coming from. I want to see more reassurance from Labour as many people find themselves in similar situation as public sector strikers, even those from private sector especially in retail. As increasing private sector jobs start to be lost, or their rights and pensions eroded, people will start seeing the point that public employees are making and will wish there is a leader they can turn to, and Labour must provide that support.
