I first heard of World Vision through my then 4 year old son. He wondered why the “Fat” children needed money when their tummys were so full. So I sat him down and explained that they weren’t fat but so very hungry their tummies were filled with air. His reaction…… Well, he suggested we send them his birthday money and make them less hungry. So for his 5th birthday present we set up a direct debit and sponsored our first child, a young boy in Ethiopia. Since then I’ve supported a boy and a girl through each of their villages projects to completion. It’s with mixed emotions to say goodbye. I lose the link but the project is finished, which is exactly what the sponsoring is supposed to do.
I’m now sponsoring a little girl in India and my sponsorship money helps her and her family in the Patna Area Development Programme. It’s a 15year long project.

I have total connection with the project I’m sponsoring and I get regular updates in regards to how my child is getting on. She sends me pictures and I send her Christmas and birthday cards. Communication is two way and highly rewarding. It also gives a little perspective. These people did not choose to be poor, they do not want charity, they want support to assist them to be self sufficient. I’m thrilled that I can help in such a small but effective way. I have been a sponsor for 15yrs and my children have grown up realising what’s important and what’s not. If everybody sponsored a child, World Vision would realise their ‘Vision’
