Geniuses in our midst…
Passion and skill rolled into one. They couldn’t stop even if they wanted to. Who am I talking about…..geniuses thats who. I admire anyone who is passionate about what they do. I don’t need to love what they do, their passion draws me in and I’m hooked. I’ve watched many geniuses at work, some are still living others however are gone but their legend lives on.
This weekend our Sunday night movie was SENNA, a documentary about the F1 driver. Now, I don’t watch F1 and have vague memories of my dad watching, so the names are familiar. But I watched this documentary with no real interest or knowledge of the subject involved.

The movie unfolded using interviews, race footage and news footage.I watched entranced, every so often shooting my husband a random question. My first unanswered question was “oh Senna, he still races doesn’t he?” now if like me you don’t know Sennas history, prepare to be devastated. If you do know his legacy you’ll understand why my husband didn’t answer but squeezed my hand and said shhhh cinema time. No talking!!
I highly recommend watching this film documentary, though I warn you, bring tissues. Ayrton Senna was inspiring as a race car driver and also as a man. Health and safety issues have changed on the track and off road. The INSTITUTO AYRTON SENNA, an institute founded by Senna’s family in brazil, was formed to create opportunities for children and young people. That was Ayrtons dream but his family has had to fulfill it.
A second documentary I highly recommend is CLOSER TO THE EDGE. This is about another passionate racer, but this mad lad is into his motorbikes 😀
Again, it’s not a subject you need to be interested in to enjoy the ride…..

Set in the background of the Isle of Man TT races, join Guy Martin on his journey as he builds up his colourful reputation on and off the bike. The reason his story is so fascinating is the fact that like Senna he couldn’t stop racing if he tried……that’s passion, that’s devotion, that’s legendary.
So there you go two people I consider geniuses in our midst. There are so many more, who would you like us to discuss next?
I have a list 🙂
