Being a parent, your spare time becomes very precious to you, because as your kids get older your time gets depleted. I decided over 12 months ago to start doing my weekly shopping online. The main reason why I decided to do this are:
- You don’t need to wade through crowded aisle
- Stand in endless queues waiting to be severed at the checkout
- Spending more time trying to find a car parking space
- Spending more money on things that you don’t really need
- You simply click a few times and you have done your shopping
- You get what you need with a personal buying experience
- Receive email alerts with the latest special offers, discounts and coupons
There are many supermarkets that offer the ability for the customer to order their shopping online in the UK. The four main, popular choices are Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda and Ocado. They all offer different discounts and stock most of the main brand products, so its up to you to find the best fit for you and your families shopping. To help you make that choice, I looked at the four main choices and tried to break down some information to make your choice a little bit easier:
Ocado
No more queueing at the supermarket, struggling through high street crowds or hunting for a parking space. Simply order online at Ocado and we’ll deliver everything to your kitchen table in a handy one-hour slot. From your weekly groceries and household essentials to life’s little luxuries, you’ll find them all here

I have only shopped at this store once or twice, but a few of my friends have and they really like it. They told me that the website is easy to use, which makes the shopping experience a lot less trying. Currently they have an offer for new customers, so if you spend over £75.00 you will receive £15.00 off your total, however this offer ends the 30th June 2012 so be quick.

Asda
Asda Home Shopping is a great way to save time and money. It’s quick and convenient – and lots of customers say it really helps them stick to a budget and resist impulse purchases.
from the Asda website
I have previously shopped online with Asda a few times in the past and found their service to be a little hot and miss. Sometimes when you ask for them not to bring replacements, they send them anyway, and I have also had some really bizarre replacements, nothing like my original product. One good point is they have apps for your iPhone or Android which allows you to do your shopping whilst on the go. They offer an Asda price guarantee where they aim to be cheaper than their main competitors, so if you find the price of your basket cheaper elsewhere, they’ll refund the difference.

Tesco
Let us do the hard work for you. Save time and money when you shop online.
from the Tesco website
I shopped online with Tesco for the first 6 months of shopping online. Their website is great, easy to use and you can see a running cost in your basket so you can ensure your shopping is within budget. You can amend the order up to midnight the day before your shopping will be delivered, allowing you to make any last-minute additions/alterations. The website had all the in-store offers together so you can find them more easily. If you currently shop in store and have a club card number, you can see online what you regularly buy and import these to your basket. The only reason I stopped shopping at Tesco was they stopped stocking some of my favourite items, and we found it cheaper to do it elsewhere.

Sainsbury’s
Not only will your shopping come from a nearby store, our shoppers are trained only to pick the freshest food for you. It’ll be as though you made the choices yourself.
from the Sainsbury’s website
I currently shop with Sainsburys as they stock all my favourite things and its great value for money. The quality of food that we receive is great and fresh, even the value range is of a decent quality and is better than Asda or Tesco. If you have a Nectar card you can use it online once you register it. The website is straight forward to use and stores all your favourite items, again allowing you to add favourites to your basket easily. It has all the same features as the other websites I have reviewed, so there is a familiarity to it. They currently have an online offer for new customers, if you spend £50 or more on your first order you receive a discount of £10.00 which is valid until August 2012.
