The scales go up.
The scales go down.
We’ve all been there, and it we’ll all go through it again and for a lot of reasons. It’s inevitable.
But the worst thing about unexpected weight gain and weight loss is your clothes become either too big to wear or you can’t even get them on anymore. I’m all for shopping but having to buy a whole wardrobe can be an expensive pain in the bum!
So here are some tips on how to make your existing wardrobe work and some staple pieces that can help you so you don’t have to buy a whole new wardrobe if your weight goes up or down.
Become BFF’s with a tailor or seamstress, or master the needle and thread. Someone who can work a needle and thread can transform your wardrobe and make your clothes work for you; let out the seams, take things up or let things down. Did you know a tailor can sort out even your most favourite pair of jeans if they don’t fit you anymore?
Invest in SHAPEWEAR or as I like to call them “suckmeinpants!”Some staple suck you in garments can help make pieces you love in your wardrobe work better should your weight go up.
You don’t have to look like you’re going to a funeral all the time by only wearing black. Dark colours are quite forgiving but opt for plums, navies, greys and dark browns.
A long tailored jacket is great for days when you just can’t be bothered sucking it in for hours. A bright coloured one looks amazing with a dark top or dress underneath it.
Tunics are amazing, if you’re down a size where a fabulous one as a dress with some killer stilettos and then if you go up a size and aren’t feeling so hot where it over jeans with some boots. They’re loose but so flattering.
Three words…BLACK WRAP DRESS. Even better, get a stretchy one, oooh or a V-neck stretchy one.
Boyfriend fit jeans are great for those days when you can’t even imagine wearing anything tight. They hang low and can be dressed up or down and are so comfy.
Black leggings are great, just so great! Did you know you can get shapewear leggings too? Whoever invented them is a genius. You can dress ’em up or down, I like a nice pair with a long top and black knee high boots.
If you trying to make a few of your favourite pieces work while your size changes over time or you just want some more confidence, accessories can do so much for you.
Get creative with what you have; use a scarf as a belt to accentuate the narrowest part of your waist, use jewellery to bring attention to your best points and to distract away from you’re not best points.
