Oh, Brett. You could hang a coat hanger off those cheekbones. I adore this video for its weirdness and arty black-and-white shots. I like a video that’s a nice visual representation of the song. I also need to thank MTV2 (now defunct) for playing this video over and over again when I was young, which is what made me originally fall in love with Suede.
This song hit number 8 in 1996, and was rather oddly covered by 80’s mullet princess Kim Wilde on her 2011 album, “Snapshots”. The band chose to use director Pedro Romhanyi to direct this video, as he also directed their video for “Animal Nitrate”.
It really isn’t necessary to be beautiful to succeed in music, of course, but it certainly helps if you just happen to be a ridiculously pale, ridiculously beautiful indie-boy with a voice like a dying swan. Le sigh.
