Premier Inn has analysed over 69,000 songs from 832 ‘remote’ and ‘in-office’ playlists on Spotify to reveal which songs, artists and genres are the most popular for all working environments this year.
Working remotely during the pandemic has meant that more people are opting for a hybrid working routine – doing a combination of working from home and from the office, allowing for more flexibility than ever. With the social pressures and office politics forgotten, remote working has allowed people to enjoy listening to their guilty pleasure songs that they may not be comfortable playing in the office.
‘STAY’ emerged as the overall most popular song for workers, with featuring artist Justin Bieber’s song ‘Peaches’ (featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon) also ranking sixth, and the Canadian pop sensation ranking as the third most popular artist in work playlists overall.
The Weeknd is another artist to have two songs in the top 15; ‘Save Your Tears’ (with Ariana Grande) ranks second, and ‘Blinding Lights’ comes in fourth, whilst the artist himself is the seventh most popular artist to work to. Harry Style’s summer pop tune ‘Watermelon Sugar’ rounds off the top three, whilst his rockier anthem ‘Adore You’ squeezes in as the 13th most popular work song.
Popular new releases from the past couple of years including Spiderman theme ‘Sunflower’ by Post Malone and hit single ‘Easy On Me’ by Adele also made the top 15, each with over 100 features in working playlists.

The artists featured in the 832 playlists were also analysed to reveal which music act took the crown as the most frequent artist for a working day. Country-pop icon Taylor Swift took the top spot, with her songs featuring an average three times in work-related playlists. Her most popular songs include ‘Exile (feat. Bon Iver)’, ‘Willow’ and ‘the 1’.
South Korean boy band and recent Grammy winner BTS is the fifth most popular artist to work to, with their K-pop song ‘Dynamite’ featuring in just under 80 work playlists globally.
