Monday night’s episode provided us with what may possible be my favourite quote from Made In Chelsea EVER. Jamie was showcasing his new sweatshirt to Proudlock, lovingly bought by Tara. The black sweatshirt had an orange J on it, for Jamie, surely? No. According to Jamie, the J was for… (wait for it)… Genius.
Oh the irony!
But all jokes aside, it got me thinking that there does seem to be a lot of one particular J word going around Chelsea; and no, this time it isn’t Jamie! (As far as we’re aware, he’s being faithful to his girlfriend for once!). The J I’m talking about is, of course, jealousy.
Despite Andy and Louise coming out as “official” in this week’s episode, her jealousy and bitterness concerning Spencer is still irritatingly obvious. This was showcased brilliantly on an afternoon tea date, when Louise remarked “what attributes does she (if you can’t guess, ‘she’ is Lucy) have that I don’t?”. Why, Louise, why? Why are you conveying yourself as such a bitter desperate girl?
It seems that everybody bar Andy and Louise are aware that Louise is certainly not over Spencer. As Andy rightly asked in the ‘next time’ sequence, why was Louise so upset when she chatted with Spencer at the Felstead Barn Dance? Unfortunately, I do fear Andy is too besotted with Louise to react to her obvious feelings, as he is terrified he will lose her after finally ‘winning’ her.
Louise is doing an excellent job in kidding herself that she is well and truly over Spencer by asking Andy to move abroad with her! Talk about jumping the gun, this girl is definitely an obsessive psycho.
I love the obvious contrasts between Lucy and Louise which make it blindingly obvious that Lucy is a much better candidate for taming the beast that is Spencer Matthews. I have so much respect for Lucy after her reaction to the revelation that Spencer has had numerous ‘bed buddies’ whilst seeing Lucy. That is ‘rank’, as she brilliantly put, and unlike Louise, Lucy is not a push over and didn’t stand for it. This, of course, made Spencer lust over her more; what male doesn’t love a strong woman? I also admire Lucy for her no-nonsense approach whenever Louise tries to make little digs: Lucy just digs deeper and really gets under Louise’s skin! So entertaining! I particularly enjoyed Lucy’s comeback when Louise’s jealousy overpowered her and she spurted out a remark that Lucy was obviously still sleeping with Spencer despite them no longer seeing each other. ‘No, that’s not my style’, retorted Lucy. But we all know it’s Louise’s.
Jealousy is not solely reserved for the Chelsea girls however. It seems Jamie and Proudlock both have the little green monster within them too. Jamie is blindingly jealous of Spencer’s attention being deviated away from him by his relationship with Lucy, particular due to the ‘enemy’ status of his own relationship with Lucy. He also seems to be a little bit jealous of Proudlock and Phoebe, despite him having a long suffering girlfriend!
I also believe Proudlock is, in a twisted way, jealous of Jamie and Phoebe, as they have a strong flirtationship which can be off-putting to another possible suitor, I can imagine! Prior to this week’s episode, I thought this was solely on Jamie, but this episode made me question Phoebe’s innocence in the whole tricky situation. She definitely does enjoy a good old flirt with Jamie, and doesn’t seem to mind the consequences. Just because she knows she won’t ‘overstep the mark’ doesn’t mean he won’t. And what about poor Proudlock waiting in the wings?
There’s never a dull moment in Chelsea.
