Oh man I forgot how much I love this song. This was yet another discovery whilst unable to sleep one night and watching music television.
Ladyhawke is a singer-songwriter from New Zealand. She spent much of her younger years in hospital, having a multitude of illnesses and allergies. She also has Aspergers Syndrome. She says her music is radio and pop friendly and that she likes to write music that puts a smile on people’s faces. She was previously in two bands before embarking on her solo project. Ladyhawke names Pat Benatar, Cyndi Lauper and many 90’s grunge bands as her inspiration. She obviously also leans heavily on 80’s synth for her unique sound.
I’m a big fan of this video and I don’t even really know why. I just feel it works very well with what is a very cool, very laid back song. She has also been nominated for various awards, including a BRIT award and an NME award, which I feel is very well deserved. Her music influences are clear and concise, and yet her style is very individual, and unlike most musicians, she doesn’t fit neatly into any box.
