WHETHER YOU ARE a seasoned concert-goer or sitting on the sidelines thinking about braving the lines, 2014 is set to offer an act you want to see … and in a city near you. Don’t wait to make your “Gotta see” list, though, there are excellent acts to catch all year long, not just in the summer months.
Checking the newly-updated schedules, here are some gems. Get off you booty and have a blast. Your favorite band or solo performer may someday be much more difficult to catch.
Miley Cyrus is hitting the road hard
ALL EYES have been on Miley Cyrus lately (can’t figure out why), and she is taking it to the fans. Miley is starting out west, hopping from Vancouver, Canada, then down through Washington and California. She will be stopping by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, then on to Colorado, the central USA, and criss crossing to just about every region in the USA. If you want to see Miley, you can, and you won’t have far to drive. After her swing through the homeland, the young wild thing is headed to the United Kingdom, finishing up August 6th in Milan, Italy. Wow … what a tour. I just can’t figure out the tongue thing. Is that her trademark? Seems just a teensy bit weird, don’t you think?
This guy ain’t never going to quit
HE MAY BE getting a little old, but he’s indisputably good: Rod Stewart will be bringing the crowd to its feet at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas during April and May. After that, you’ll need to hop the pond and catch Rod in the U.K. He is scheduled to wrap it up on July 3rd, in Cologne, Germany. By the way, do you reckon cologne (the smelly stuff) got started in Cologne?
Head to the country for a ton of fun
COUNTRY FANS can catch their buddy, Tim McGraw, on the Las Vegas strip this year. He will be playing The Venetian Theatre in March and April, then on to Foxborough, Massachusetts, and Cheyenne, Wyoming. If you want to catch Tim in a more accessible setting, maybe get a handshake and a photograph, try the Oregon Jamboree on August 2nd. The ever-sexy Miranda Lambert will be headlining that show, as well.
To all the girls I’ve loved before
IF CROONING AND SWOONING is on your agenda, take your mother, sister, girlfriend, and wife to see the ever-incredible Julio Iglesias. Julio turned 70 last year, but that hasn’t dimmed the magic – or the energy. Catch him in Florida, Arizona, Texas, Nevada, on the East Coast, or head on over to Europe. He will wrap it up at home, in Marbella, Spain, on August 13.
If you want to have a good time
PARROT HEADS will be pleased to hear Jimmy Buffet is taking Margaritaville to the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa this year, then down to West Palm Beach for a gig at the Cruzan Amphitheater. After that, it’s viva la France if you want to hang with Buffet. Don’t quote me on this, but I’ve heard you can sometimes catch him as a single, without the band, at off-grid shows … if you know where to look. Sounds crazy, but here’s a few vendors to search every now and then: Get em’ Cheap, Maybe here, A great place to check.
These five well-worth-seeing acts are just icing on the cake. Your tastes (and results) may vary. Two off this list are going on my calendar – how about you? And if you know of a blockbuster concert you are chomping at the bit to see, please let me know.
REMEMBER: Secure your tickets in advance. Don’t deal with scalpers. And don’t drink and drive. Make this a special year by attending concerts you will remember forever. You won’t regret it.
