Titans of the Twittersphere: What Are the Top 50 Tweeting About?

  •  Interactive report that uncovers the tweeting habits of the likes of the Kardashians, Oprah and Donald Trump
  •      ‘Love’ and ‘Thank’ are the most used words, particularly by Lady Gaga and Harry Styles
  •      Rihanna and Jimmy Fallon use their profiles to self-promote more than any other

GoCompare Broadband has analysed the tweets of the most followed people currently using Twitter, including high-profile figures from politics, music and film. This research was carried out to show how celebrities bridge the gap between themselves and their followers.

Some of the highlights from the research include:

Twitter feels the ‘love’

The most commonly used word is ‘love’. While many of the tweets that get attention can be negative or even shocking, the fact that ‘love’ is in first place and ‘thank’ in second suggests that Twitter is a place where positivity still reigns

Emma Watson bucks the trend

We’ve categorised each profiles tweets, and while most actors’ tweets are self-promotional, British actress Watson uses her profile to discuss political and social issues. She is the only non-politician in this category which goes to show how the power of influence can be used differently.

Sitting on the fence

Being famous but relatable is tough for celebrities to balance. The likes of Justin Bieber, Adele and Justin Timberlake seem to be the best at this though, with a good mix of personal, political and promotional posts in their timelines.

The research shows the massive impact of these individuals, highlighting the most influential in terms of follows and retweets to show what it takes to stay at the top.

Martyn John, PR and Social Media Manager at GoCompare, comments: “Most of us could probably guess who some of the most followed people on Twitter are, but rarely do we stop and think about the messages these influencers are actually sending to millions of people around the world.”
