You probably will have tried pork crackling/scratchings, or at least heard about it. So when I was asked to review CHICKEN CRACKLING I was genuinely surprised that such a thing existed. So yes, I was sent some bags to taste test and report back.
I found out that this is the first chicken crackling in the UK and it is produced here too. They claim that it is a healthier alternative to pork scratching/crackling. It is high in protein and low in fat and I got to try the two flavours, Sea Salt and Habanero Chilli. There are no artificial colourings, flavourings, preservatives or MSG – they are also gluten free!
Got to say one of their serving ideas was to crumble it over a caesar salad – which I did and it was yum!
The bags are 30g and you can imagine seeing these in pubs like you have done with the pork ones for years.
I found the Sea Salt one to be really quite salty and I definitely needed a drink after them and the Habanero Chilli ones were my favourite. The chilli wasn’t too powerful, which might surprise people seeing the word ‘Habanero’ on them. I like spicy foods but these were quite mild. Could have easily eaten more than one bag of these. They also worked really well in the idea of crumbling them over a salad. Really liked that idea.
As you’ll see there is good size pieces in a bag too! One thing I remember from the pork version is how hard it was to eat on your teeth. This chicken crackling is definitely easier to crunch into.
