Why a theater room is a good idea
If you have a family that likes to watch movies together, there is no reason why you shouldn’t find a way to dedicate a room in your house for that purpose. You can easily turn any room in your home into a perfect home theater room as long as you have the right things. A home theater is a great way to make family memories without having to spend too much money. Here are some ideas on what you can add to your home theater to make it fun and exciting for everyone:
Close the room up with curtains and sliding doors
You want this room to be very dark. In order to make it dark enough to look like a real movie theater, you can add in a few black-out curtains to the windows, and you can install a regular door. If you want something a little more trendy, you can find barn doors for sale in many places. Barn doors do the best job at keeping light out so that you can have a movie night or day without the light bothering you.
Comfortable chairs or love seats with cup holders
If you have the extra funds, go ahead to buy a chair for everyone. If you don’t have enough room for a chair for every family member, you can buy a reclining couch that comes with cup holders. These things will make your home theater a lot more realistic and a lot more comfortable.
A place to rest your feet
A simple coffee table, reclining couch, or small footrest can be just the thing you need to bring maximum comfort to your movie theater. If you do decide to use the coffee table, you can add a pillow to the table to rest your feet on so that it acts as if it were a real footrest.
Decorative lighting, light fairy, or LED lights
Just because a movie theater needs to be very dark, doesn’t necessarily mean that you shouldn’t be able to see some things. To add in the atmosphere of a real theater, you can place fairy lights, or soft LED lights around the sides of the room so that you can still see things when the room goes dark before the movie starts and after it finishes. Getting a set of lights that come with a remote is often the best for a situation like this one. You will be able to control the lighting and make sure that everyone is comfortable without having to get up to change the lights whenever someone needs a snack.
A popcorn maker
A popcorn maker isn’t as expensive as you would think. If you want things to look and feel like a real-life movie theater, then you can get a small popcorn machine to sit in the back of the room so that you always have popcorn on demand. Or if you want to go with something a bit smaller, you can get a microwave-safe popcorn bowl that will make popcorn for you in the kitchen while you watch your movie. Butter and salt can be added to taste and everyone can have their popcorn exactly how they like it.

To advance the experience a little bit more, you can have a table set up on the side of the room that is holding all kinds of snacks. You can buy bulk cheese balls, red vines, chocolate, M&Ms, and all other kinds of snacks. Whether you want to go through the trouble of putting them into bowls or leaving it up to your family to pick and choose what they want is up to you entirely.
A mini-fridge
To keep drinks cold without having to leave the room to check the fridge, you can place a mini-fridge beside the table. You can go with bottles, cans, or cartons with plastic cups set to the side. As long as the mini-fridge isn’t taking up too much space, you can include it in the room and your kids will be so excited to have a special cold drink during the movie night with their whole family.
